QUETTA: The Pashtoon Qaumi Tehrik has called for creation of a ‘southern Pashtoonkhwa’ province comprising areas from Sibi to Zhob.
Addressing a gathering of PQT activists at the Meezan chowk here on Tuesday, the party’s leader, Rafiq Pashtoon, said it was unjustified to give the top
posts of chief minister and governor of Balochistan to Balochs and demanded that till the creation of the new province one of the posts should be given
to a Pashtoon.
He criticised former military leader Yahya Khan for merging Pashtoon areas from Sibi to Zhob into Balochistan and turning a majority into minority.
He said the merger had created numerous problems for the local people.
Rafiq Pashtoon said the main objective of his party was to struggle for the ‘southern Pashtoonkhwa’ province.
He said there were political movements in Punjab, NWFP and Sindh for Sarieki, Pothwar and Mohajir provinces and there was no harm if the PQT
demanded that Balochistan be divided for the creation of a Pashtoon province.

This seems to be an ISI plan as a part of their "divide and rule" policy. If Pashtune wants to have their province out their Pashtune areas of Balochistan, Baloch have no problem or objections with it as long as it comprises the historic landmarks of Pashtune areas not the Baloch areas. Baloch have lived with Pashtune for centuries as brothers and friends and many of them are related by blood. Baloch have always wanted to re-mark the Balochistan's boundries on historic, cultural and linguistic lines and we happily support our Pashtune brothers demand, as long as they respect the historic landmarks of Baloch areas. This all is coming in the wake of successful BNP council session and to counter Akhtar Jan Mengal's calls for Baloch--Pashtune unity to save Balochistan. >> Read

Who is this Guy Rafiq Pashtune? We have never heard of him before? Is he a new leader of Pashtune people. We thought Mohmood Khan Achakzai was our Pashtune leader? He must be an ISI agent working on a ISI funded plan to create rift among Baloch and Pashtune people. If so, he must be exposed, stopped, discouraged and challenged. We Baloch and Pashtune are always bonded in good relationship.

KARACHI: A foreign joint-venture company plans to invest up to $3 billion in Pakistan in a copper and gold mine, the chief executive of the company said on
Tuesday.
Tethyan Copper Co Ltd, a joint venture between Canada’s Barrick Gold and Chile’s Antofagasta Plc, one of the world’s largest copper miners, has been
granted an exploration licence for the Reko Diq site in Balochistan.
Ore reserves at the site, a mixture of minerals, are estimated at 4 billion tons, of which 0.5 per cent is expected to be copper with 0.29 gram of gold per ton
of ore, Tethyan chief executive Cassie Boggs told Reuters in an interview.
'We think the investment is probably going to be between $2.5 and $3 billion,' Boggs said by telephone.
Pakistan’s foreign direct investment for the first 11 months of the 2008-09 fiscal year was $3.32 billion.
Tethyan is working on a feasibility study, which is expected to be completed by early next year. The aim of the project is to exploit both copper and gold
deposits, Boggs said.
Tethyan has a 75 per cent interest while the Balochistan government holds the remaining 25 per cent.
The project is expected to create up to 9,000 jobs in the construction phase, which will last for about three years, and then employ up to 3,000 people once
the mine is operational.
'Initially, we will need to probably bring in people from the outside with certain mining expertise,' said Boggs. 'But certainly, the plan is to train and develop
the local workforce.'
Many investors are hesitant to invest in Pakistan because of security worries.
'Here in Pakistan, all the current events make security a concern but we actually believe security is manageable.' Boggs said the company would continue to
weigh the benefits against the risks but felt the project had a lot of potential for its investors and for Pakistan. —Reuters
