Four anti-government private armies operate in
Pakistan's southwest: minister
Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik Tuesday disclosed that four private anti-government armies are operating in the restive southwestern
Balochistan province.
Malik told reporters in Islamabad that these armies are responsible for all violent acts in the province, including attacks on security personnel,
government installations and target- killings.
The minister said Baloch Republican Army, Baloch Liberation Front, Lashkar-e-Balochistan and Baloch Liberation Army, have links with certain foreign
elements and causing blood-shed in Balochistan.
Balochistan has been in the grip of target killings in recent months and non-locals are the main targets of the insurgents. At least two senior political
leaders were shot dead by unidentified gunmen this month.
The interior minister ruled out talks with those who are involved in killings and said "what to talk with these groups whose basis stood on violence and
violations."
Rehman Malik claimed sufficient progress had been made to wipe the anti-state and anti-social element out of the Balochistan.
Commenting on talks with his Indian counterpart last month in Islamabad, he said both sides realized the need for durable peace in the region.
"Talks were held on equal footing," the minister said and reiterated Pakistan would never allow its soil to be misused nor would it allow the terrorists
and their networks to flourish.
