KARACHI - The family of a BSO (azaad) senior vice chairman from Balochistan on Wednesday urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the abduction of their beloved Zakir Majeed. He is Baloch by caste and resident of Mastung, Balochistan, who was picked up by the intelligence agencies of Pakistan on 8 June last year.
Addressing a Press conference held here at Karachi Press Club, the family members of the missing Zakir Majeed Baloch said that he was picked up by the law enforcement agency from Mastung area.
They said Zakir was a student of M.A in Balochistan University and vice chairman of Baloch Students Organisation BSO who was picked up by LEA on June 8, 2009 and shifted to an unknown place. The family members said that they were over conscious and feeling agony of head and heart as there was no information about his existence. The family have heard now news of his well-being since his abduction last year.
They said that they approached to the government’s authorities to locate his whereabouts but no action was taken in this regard. Later, they filed a constitutional petition in Balochistan High Court and in Supreme Court of Pakistan but the result were same. Zakir Majeed’s sister said that the family have been protesting in front of different press clubs in Balochistan, Karachi and Islamabad but their pleas for justice were not heard. More surprisingly the so called Crisis Management Cell publically lied and issued a wrong statement on National news papers claiming that Zakir had been released. Whereas our respect aged mother still awaits her sons return. “As a sister I ask everyone and you (the journalists) where shall we go for the search of justice?” She questioned.
They suspected that Zakir had been killed by the security forces as they had done with other forced-disappeared Baloch political leaders like Ghulam Muhammad Baloch and others. They said that despite claims of the president, the LEA (Law Enforcement Agencies) still was picking up the Baloch people from different parts of the province daily.
She appealed United Nation, European Union countries and international human rights organisation to take action for the release of their innocent people. On the occasion, they also claimed that more than eight thousand Baloch people including political workers women and children have been forcefully abducted by state intelligence agencies.
The family have announced to establish a hunger strike protest camp in front of Karachi press club from today (13-05-2010). They appealed all the human loving writers, journalists and other freeborn people to help them raise their voice against the illegal abduction of Mr Zakir Majeed and thousands of other forced- disappeared Baloch activists.
It must be noted that Baloch political parties and families of abducted Baloch allege that more than eight thousand Baloch activists including 144 women and children have been whisked away by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. The state agencies continue to abduct people from Balochistan on daily basis. However, it is a sad but true fact that International Community, International Human Right Organisations including the UN have failed to pressurise the state of Pakistan to bring Baloch forced-disappeared person to surface or at least let their family members know about the whereabouts of their loved ones.
