Christian, Hindu and Jewish NGOs demand Iran and
Pakistan to end human rights violations in Balochistan

PRESS RELEASE:
Monday, June 26, 2006

Iran and Pakistan are on Freedom House's list of the "Worst of the Worst"
violators of human rights

KALAT, Balochistan -- On Monday, the following twelve non-governmental
organizations (NGO) jointly filed an appeal for human rights protection of the
Baloch people in Iran and Pakistan with the United Nation’s Human Rights
Council:

UN Watch delivered the joint appeal on behalf of the NGOs to the UN Human Rights Council during its first session
on June 26, 2006 to implement GA Resolution 60/251 in occupied Balochistan.

The Human Rights Council was established by the UN General Assembly in its resolution 60/251 of March 15, 2006,
which stated that the Human Rights Council would replace the Commission on Human Rights, which will be
formally abolished on 16 June 2006. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan stated that, “Now the real work begins”. The
High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Arbour, also saluted the creation of the Human Rights Council, calling
its establishment “a historic opportunity to improve the protection and promotion of fundamental freedoms of people
around the world.”

UN Watch is a NGO based in Geneva whose mandate is to monitor the performance of the United Nations by the
yardstick of its own Charter. Areas of interest include: UN management reform, the UN and civil society, equality
within the UN, and the equal treatment of member states. UN Watch notes that the disproportionate attention and
unfair treatment applied by the UN toward Israel over the years offers an object lesson (though not the only one) in
how due process, equal treatment, and other fundamental principles of the UN Charter are often ignored or
selectively upheld.

UN Watch pleaded in its appeal, “The eyes of the world are turned to the new Human Rights Council in the hope that
it will effectively protect and promote human rights universally. Therefore we look to the full implementation of GA
Resolution 60/251.”

It emphasized, “To truly address the reality of human rights violations on the ground, the Council cannot shy away
from the most relevant situations around the world. In her recent report, the High Commissioner for Human Rights
has mentioned the situations of Uzbekistan, Somalia, Sudan, Colombia, Nepal, Togo, Burma and the DPRK. Based
on Freedom House's list of the "Worst of the Worst" violators and our own estimates, the following (Iran and
Pakistan) is a small selection for the Council's consideration.

“(According to Amnesty International Report, 2006) Iran consistently represses the rights of human rights defenders,
political prisoners, and minorities. Discriminatory laws and practices in particular target ethnic and religious
minorities, especially the Baloch.

“(According to various human rights reports) In Pakistan, violence against women remains a pressing issue,
symbolized by the plight of Mukhtaran Mai. In the minority province of Balochistan, security agencies are committing
arbitrary arrests and detention, extrajudicial executions, torture and "disappearances" of student and labor union
leaders.”

The Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile has approached various international organizations to inform them of
the gross human rights violations being committed by the Iranian and Pakistani governments in occupied
Balochistan. GOB (Exile) appealed to these organizations to use their position to put an end to the “Baloch
Holocaust”.

General Secretary of GOB (Exile), Mir Azaad Khan Baloch questioned the global community for allowing the Iranian
and the Pakistani regimes to commit crimes against humanity in occupied Balochistan without any ramifications. He
stated that both these rogue countries have launched military operations against the Baloch freedom fighters and
non-combatant, innocent men, women and children that simply want self-determination, a universal right of the
Baloch people. He regretted that there were no sincere efforts being pursued by any government around the world to
force the Iranian and Pakistani forces to end their ruthless extermination of the Baloch people.
