"Baloch War of independence"

April 18th, 2006

The Baloch natives are fighting a “War of Independence” in Pakistan and Iran. At present, the Baloch territory is occupied by Afghanistan (Farrah and Nimroz
provinces), Iran (Sistan-Baluchistan province), and Pakistan (Balochistan province).

Successive governments in both Iran and Pakistan have systematically oppressed the Baloch people since the occupation of Baloch territory after World War
II. Due to cultural similarities between the Afghans and Baloch, the Baloch in Afghanistan were not discriminated, and thus, they have amicable relations with
the Afghan government.

Although Baloch territory is rich in mineral resources, the occupying forces of Iran and Pakistan have intentionally kept the region underdeveloped to the point
that it’s now one of the most neglected and backward areas in the world. The Baloch are frustrated that their region’s strategic location and mineral
resources are being exploited to benefit their occupiers while they are suffering due to non-availability of infrastructure, health facilities, education, etc. So, in
order to regain self-determination, the Balochis have risen to gain their freedom from both Iran and Pakistan.

The global community must realize that the Baloch are the most secular group in a region that is infested with Islamic fundamentalists. It is in the interest of
global peace to support the Baloch in gaining their freedom.

Unfortunately, the US and Allied countries are backing the current government in Pakistan. To support a ruthless military dictator like Pervaiz Musharraf (Hitler
of Asia and Butcher of Balochistan) is against all principals of democracy and human rights.

Recently, I viewed the movie, "V for Vendetta", and it surely depicts the present crisis in Balochistan.

The ruthless Pakistani and Iranian governments are intent on oppressing the Baloch nation. To date, more than 600 Baloch were massacred and over 8,000
are lingering in prisons for voicing their demand for: equitable treatment, self-determination, freedom of speech, democracy, economic development in their
region, clean drinking water, schooling for their children, proper health care, and numerous amenities for basic sustenance which are taken for granted in
other parts of the world.

Instead, their oppressors (Pakistani and Iranians) call the Baloch traitors. In Pakistan, the military has embarked on a mission to exterminate Baloch
villagers. Sophisticated weapons are being used to attack and destroy any moving object in remote areas of Balochistan.

A few brave Baloch have risen as freedom fighters for the Baloch nation, and they are calling themselves the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). Yesterday, the
Pakistani government declared the BLA as a terrorist organization. However, during his recent visit to Pakistan, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South
and Central Asia, Richard Boucher, said that the US was closely watching the unfolding situation in Balochistan, adding that much evidence was needed
before the BLA could be termed a terrorist organization.

So, should the US and Allied nations label the Baloch Freedom Movement as a terrorist movement or it should be defined as a revolution by an oppressed
ethnic group that is fighting a battle for self-determination in their ancestral land?

After you watch "V for Vendetta" you will realize that the oppressors of this world will use every means to manipulate and take control of our freedom that we,
as humans, so much cherish. The big question is, "Is V a terrorist or a freedom fighter?"

Political Scientists now recognize that 'democracy' has been a tool of more populous people oppressing minority peoples all over the world.

First I should observe that I do not see any end to military rule in Pakistan without the end of the Pakistani state (or its reduction to Pakistani Punjab, minus
the Seraikis if they also don't want to be in it).   Pakistan has never had 'democracy' and is not about to get it.

More fundamentally, the national question of Sindhis and Baloch must take precedence over all struggles.  Those who think majority rule will solve the
Sindhi or Baloch national question are, in my personal view, living in a dream land.  If the majority of Pakistan are willing to support bombing the Baloch, how
does democracy help the Baloch?   When did the majority speak in the 1970s and what does the majority have to say about it now?

If the majority of Pakistanis will not accept Sindhi and Balochi as a co-equal national languages, what use would democratic majority rule be to this right of
Sindhis and Balochs?

We in the US are not living in a simple majority rule democracy.. the US constitution is geared to protecting the rights of smaller states and individuals.
Please read Jefferson and Madison carefully on the framing of the constitution, the system of checks and balances forcing supermajorities, protecting
judges, requiring a President (who is more or less elected by a majority) to get every high official and judge confirmed by a Senate which is allows half a
million Wyoming citizens to have the same power as 30 million plus Californians.   This is by design and not an accident.

But even the US is not the right model... Canada is closer where each province has a constitutional veto.

Still one has to realize there is far greater concordance of values across the US or Canada than there is in Pakistan.  No "democracy" without the abolition of
the Pakistani military is meaningful, and no democracy without equal representation of all nations in Pakistan is going to help the less numerous nations.
These conditions are not about to be fulfilled until the Sindhi and Baloch right to self-determination is recognized.   Till then Sindhis will remain second class
citizens.

The right to self-determination is a basic human right.   We need not argue what Sindhis or Baloch would do if they are able to exercise it.  The freedom to
exercise it at any time is itself the point.

Be Strong And Have Faith

Dear Brothers And Sisters

We are now approaching a very critical time . The Pakistani propaganda machine is in full swing against the Baloch . They have the army , major
newspapers , and the TV and radio channels .  Everything is geared towards crushing the freedom loving Baloch spirit  . The only problem the Npakis face is
the fact that they have neither the legal or moral right to do what they are doing to the Baloch Nation.

The good news for the Baloch Nation is that Napakis are  actually losing the battle they started . The self imposed Napaki authorities are now reduced to
calling in favours to cancel visa's , and surrounding houses of Baloch Nationalists . Their attempt to label the BLA as a terrorist organisation  has not born
fruit

The European Union is against the
military action, the Napaki military have taken against the Baloch Nation .Pakistan is nothing without the USA , it wouldn't
survive for more than a week . For all the weapons that Pakistan possess , it is not a strong fighting force . The Npaki army has spent the greater part of the
last 57 years killing , maiming , raping , torturing , defenceless fellow Muslims . Whenever they take on a force more powerful than themselves  they
capitulate .

The Baloch Nation must stay strong and have faith . The longer the battle continues , the more confused  and weak Napaki society will become . Napakis
have been used to bullying and getting their way , and this time their tactics are not working . Steadily the tide will turn in favour of the Baloch Nation .

Balochistan into the world’s Notice.
Dear Professor Shaukat Baloch:

I agree with all your points and add one more that such a referendum should be limited to Baloch population of Balochistan not the refugees and/or settlers
from other provinces.

It is a great pleasure for us that our European and American friends are taking interest in the plight of suppressed Baloch people under the occupation of
Pakistani and Iranian religious fanatic regimes.

But one thing should be clear to our friends that Baloch don't want to change masters. They want to be the masters of their own destiny. Baloch like their
Kurd cousins are secular people and the friends of the west. If the west extends its hands to these two people there will be peace and harmony in this area.

Dear John Stanton,
A brief answer to your querries (to the extent of Pakistan-occupied Balochistan) is as follows:
1.        A referendum under the supervision of UN is held in Balochistan and the people are asked to answer 'yes' or 'no' to the question 'whether Balochistan
should be declared to be an independent country.' It is certain that this question would answered in the affirmative by a large majority of people. If the
international community seriously puts its pressure, Pakistani generals (who are the de facto rulers even during civilian governments) would agree to it.
2.        Gas and minerals would be sold to Pakistan and India on rates fixed by Balochistan. In this regard no artificial problems would be created for the
people of remaining Pakistan. Pakistan would be treated as a friendly country. Foreign companies would be invited to invest on further research of oil, gas
and minerals.
3.        Balochistan would be a secular, democratic country with freedom of faith, religion, thought and expression in a peaceful manner. There would be
complete freedom of worship for all. No person would be allowed to preach hatred. Under the constitution, slogans based on religion, sects etc. would be
excluded from election campaigns.
4.        There would be a parliamentry system of government accompanied with an independent judiciary and a free press.
5.        Religious extremists would be asked not to meddle in politics. However they may keep their views with themselves. Unlike today, religious extremists
will not receive funds in millions of dollars from ISI and other sources. Consequently they would remain peaceful.
6.        Nation of Baloch of about 7 million, will run and flourish in a way similar to Switzerland and Scandanavian countries.
7.        Professors, scientists and experts in other fields from the West would be invited to work in the universities and labs of Balochistan.
Kindly feel free to ask more questions. I would try to answer the same.
Yours sincerely,
Shaukat Baloch,
Switzerland

Hey! John Stanton here.

I'm reading all the complaints about Pak and this and that but what do ya'll want! I mean come on! If you want independence from Pak and Iran, how is that
going to happen?! How would you handle the resource-rich country that is yours? Would you treat people that don't worship the same with respect? No one
like me is asking for a democracy (here in the USA ours is failing), but ya'll must have some plan. And you know that the US military/CIA is in your ranks or
lurking close by.

So, what is the plan? It is easy to talk about this martyr, this fighter killed, this demonstration, this good person put away by the idiot president of Pak or Iran.
Tell me though, as an American most sympathetic to your cause, how I can explain it all to an audience here in the USA and elsewhere. Give me something
to talk about for you all beyond what is in this group. How would ya'll run a nation of Baloch? I think this is a very fair question
Dear Durafshan,

The Pakistani forces have blocked all routs in central Balochistan and many parts of Makran. They are bombing a vast area and all the hills and mountains. They
are after the BLA and BLF guerrillas. In this operation many Baloch informers and agents are acting with the enemy. It is time that BLA and BFL should be fully
mindful with the situation. The fifth columnist and agents should not be spared, other wise every member of BLA and BLF will be arrested or killed (khakam ba
dhan), and this will be a great loss to every Baloch.

A very ferocious military operation is going in major parts of Balochistan. This operation is being conducted in Marri-Bugti, Rakhshan in Punjgur, Maskey in

is clear that both Iran and Pakistan have joined hands against the Baloch people. During the last ten days of operations hundred of people have been arrested.
Many innocent people have been killed including women and children. God may save the Baloch from Punjabi and Gajjar.

The exact date of kalat's occupation by Paki army in 1948
Thu, 29 Mar 2007
By Hussain Bux Thebo

Dear Readers

As student of history I want to share with you about Kalat Occupation. The sorrowful state of affairs of Balocnistan were created because the cheat and deceit on the
part of Mr. Jinnah and weakness on the part of Mir Ahmed Yar khan played pivotal role to put it into permanent bondage of subjugation.

In 1946 the newly elected Labor Party Government headed by Clement Attlee in Britain decided to send a 3-member Cabinet Mission to India in a final bid to
devise the methodology for the transfer of power in India. The Mission comprising the Secretary of State for India, Lord Pethic Lawrence, AV Alexander and Sir
Stafford Cripps arrived in India on March 24, 1946. The Khan of Kalat, on the advice of Mr, Jinnah the legal advisor to the Kalat state at the time, approached the
Mission on behalf of his government to discuss the future status of his state in the scheme of independence for India. The Mission advised the Khan to have his
case prepared by legal experts. Eminent lawyers as I I Chundrigar, Sir Sultan Ahmed, Sardar BK Memon and Sir Walter Monkton were hired to prepare the case
for the Kalat state, which after vetting by the Quaid himself, was submitted to the Mission in the form of a memorandum. This memorandum, briefly, re-stressed the
following major points:

That Kalat is an independent and sovereign state its status is different from other princely states of British India , its relations with the British government being
based on various mutual agreements and treaties. That Kalat is not an Indian state, its relations with India being of only a formal nature by virtue of Kalat's
agreements with the British and that with the ceasing of the Agreement of 1876 with the Kalat government, Kalat would regain its complete independence, as it
existed prior to 1876. All such regions including Quetta Municipality as were given under the control of the British in consequence of any treaty will be returned to
the sovereignty of the Kalat state, and resume their original status as parts of the Kalat state.

On March 22, 1947, Lord Mountbatten, the last of the Viceroys of India, arrived in Delhi to wind up British supremacy in this part of the British dominions. The final
partition plan of June 3, 1947 stated in respect of transfer of power in India. Mr, Jinnah wrote to the Khan of Kalat that since the position of the Kalat State was
different from the other Indian States, representation on behalf of the state should be made directly to the Viceroy in Delhi to discuss the future position of Kalat and
the return of Baloch regions hitherto under the control of the British Government. Accordingly, the Chief Secretary of Kalat State was sent to Delhi with a draft of the
new position of Kalat as prepared by legal experts. This resulted in a round table conference, held on August 4, 1947, in which Lord Mountbatten, Mr, Jinnah, Mr
Liaqat Ali Khan, Chief Minister of Kalat, Sir Sultan Ahmed, the legal Advisor of Kalat State and the Khan of Kalat took part in the deliberations The following points
were agreed upon:

"Kalat State will be independent on August 5, 1947, enjoying the same status as it originally held in 1838, having friendly relations with its neighbors. In case the
relations of Kalat with any future government got strained, Kalat will exercise its right of self-determination, and the British Government should take precautionary
measures to help Kalat in the matter as per the Treaties of 1839 and 1841."

As a corollary to the round table conference at Delhi, another agreement was signed between Kalat and Pakistan on August 4, 1947. The points agreed upon were
broadcast on August 11, 1947, as under:

"The Government of Pakistan agrees that Kalat is an independent state, being quite different in status from other states of India; and commits to its relations with
the British Government as manifested in several agreements.. ... In the meantime, a Standstill Agreement will be made between Pakistan and Kalat by which
Pakistan shall stand committed to all the responsibilities and agreements signed by Kalat and the British Government from 1839 to 1947 and by this,.... In order to
discuss finally the relations between Kalat and Pakistan on matters of defense, foreign relations and deliberations will be held in the near future in Karachi." A few
weeks after the agreement, the Agent to the Governor-General informed the rulers of Kharan and Lasbela that the control of their regions had been transferred to
the Kalat State. Hence they once again came under the direct influence of Kalat. The Marri and Bugti tribal region was also returned into the Kalat fold soon after.
Thus the whole of Balochistan came under the suzerainty of the Khan of Kalat in the same confederacy of Baloch tribes that Nasir Khan I, in 1666-67, was able to
create. The Kalat government made a formal declaration of its independence on August 15, 1947, soon after the end of British supremacy, and a day after
Pakistan's coming into being on the map of the subcontinent.

Immediately, a delegation comprising the Kalat prime minister and foreign minister was sent to Karachi, the then capital of Pakistan, for discussions and an
honorable settlement vis-a-vis relations with Pakistan in the light of the mutually endorsed Standstill Agreement of August 11, 1947. To shock and grief of Khan of
Kalat Mr, Jinnah coarsely persuaded the Khan to expedite the merger. The Khan replied, "I have great respect for your advice...... but Balochistan, being a land of
numerous tribes, the people there must be duly consulted in the matter prior to any decision I take; for, according to the prevalent tribal convention, no decision
can be binding upon them unless they are taken into confidence beforehand by their Khan." With this provisional agreement, the Khan returned to Kalat and
promptly summoned the Kalat State Houses of Parliament, the Dar-ul-Awam and Dar-ul-Umra and proposed to the House to accord him a mandate on the matter
of Kalat's merger with Pakistan.

Both the Houses, however, contended unanimously that the proposal of Kalat's merger militated against the spirit of the earlier agreement arrived at between Kalat
Government and the spokesmen of Pakistan on August 4, 1947, as also against the Independence Act of 1947. This decision of Kalat's Parliament was forwarded
to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan, for necessary processing. Shortly afterwords, the Mr, Jinnah visited Sibi and during his stay there insisted
upon the Khan to sign the merger documents in his personal capacity. Finding reluctance in Khan Govt: Pakistan Cabinet under the leadership and instruction of
Mr, Jinnah working on a scheme to breakup the 500-year old state. The nature of their scheme, as it turned out subsequently, was tantamount to a political
castration of the Baloch people. Illegally and in violation of of 4th August 1947 round table conference declaration and agreement made by Mr, Jinnah on the very
day with Khan, Stand Still Agreement and also Govt; of Pakistan's earlier decion, it had decided to punish and encircle Kalat and Baloch people cut off Kharan and
Lasbela by giving them an equal status as Kalat and obtaining their "mergers" with Pakistan directly.

Makran, which had been a part of the Kalat State for the last 300 years, was made independent of Kalat on March 17, 1948; and one of the three Sardars made its
ruler. Thus Makran, too, was made a part of Pakistan. These hasty, illogical, irrational and politically illegal and oppressive steps naturally disillusioned the Baloch
people. They rightly felt that all their erstwhile services and sacrifices in the cause of Pakistan were now forgotten. So deep was their despair and frustration that
several of them wanted to revolt. Meanwhile, the wave of hatred and animosity generated by the irrational policies of the Government of Pakistan against Kalat was
fast gaining dangerous dimensions all over Balochistan. Feelings in the tribal areas particularly were running high against Pakistan and the Baloch people were
calling the position of the Khan of Kalat himself into question.

Things were moving fast towards a show down. The Government of Pakistan instructed the Brigadier in Command at Quetta to go on full alert for action against
Kalat state and the Agent to the Governor General began to prepare for police action. This was the situation as it stood in the first quarter of 1948 triggered by the
illogical actions of the Pakistan. Under duress Khan of Kalat signed the merger documents in his personal capacity on March 27, 1948, in an effort to diffuse the
situation in Balochistan. In his autobiography, he admits that he did not have the mandate to sign the merger without the consent of the Houses of Parliament of
Kalat State. A fortnight after the merger, on April 15, 1948, the Agent to the Governor General in Balochistan issued an order in the name of Mr, Jinnah, and the
legal entity of the Khan of Kalat was abolished and within 20 hours of the order many of the members of the Balochistan Cabinet were arrested or exiled from
Balochistan. Prince Abdul Karim's revolt and first Baloch armed struggle sarted in this back ground,

You simply ignore the fact that Pakistan is a multi-national state. Balochistan represents 40% of Pakistan's area. Sindhis are 20% or more Pakistan's population.
The representation of these nations in Pakistani military is virtually nil. Moreover, Balochistan was forcibly occupied by Pakistan in 1948 and has demanded its
independence ever since. The Pakistani military, under Gen. Musharaf, has once again committed war crimes in Balochistan. Hundreds of thousands of villagers
have been displaced, their villages bombed and fields destroyed. For months, even relief supplies for tens of thousands of children at risk were blocked. The
Baloch are known for their secular outlook. The Sindhis are predominantly sufi and the Islamists have failed to gain a base with them. In fact, the Sindhis revolted
against the Islamist Gen. Zia's policies and thousands of lives were lost. Thus the idea that a religious revolution could have a popular base is limited to other
ethnic groups in Pakistan. The Pakistan military and the Islamists have long had an alliance. The military used the Islamists to sponsor terrorism in neighboring
India. The military were backers of the Taliban.Sindhis and Baloch will not support either military rulers or the Islamists. For Sindhis, Ms. Bhutto represents the
hope of a temporary [compromise] with the powers that dominate the country. But the key problems for Sindhis and Baloch are their rights -- control over their
natural resources, preservation of their language and culture, etc.
What the future holds for Pakistan is not Islamic revolution, but a likely breakup.
